The purpose of the Maui Wildfires Compensation Program (the “MWCP” or “Program”) is to assist those who suffered serious physical injury and the families of those who died as a result of the tragic Maui Wildfires of August 8, 2023.
The MWCP is now accepting Registrations Forms from eligible Claimants. Please review the Protocol available on the “Key Documents” tab to determine if you are eligible.
To register as a Claimant (or on behalf of someone else) for the MWCP, please complete the Registration Form in the “Registration” tab above.
The deadline to submit a Registration Form with the MWCP is May 1, 2024.
* As further explained in the Protocol, there is a limited exception to this deadline for certain Claimants.
The MWCP was created at the request of Governor Josh Green with cooperation and funding from the State of Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric, Kamehameha Schools, the County of Maui, Cincinnati Bell, Charter Communications, and the West Maui Land Company (collectively referred to as the “Parties” or “Contributors”). The purpose of the Program is to provide prompt payment to the families of those who died and to those who suffered serious physical injuries as a result of the tragic Maui Wildfires of August 8, 2023 (the “Maui Wildfires”)
The Protocol is the operative document governing the Program’s claims-submission process. It sets forth the eligibility and process requirements for individuals (“Claimants”) to submit and settle claims.
The Program will be administered by Judge Ronald Ibarra, former Chief Judge of Hawaii’s Third Circuit Court. Judge Ibarra was appointed as a Circuit Court Judge in 1989 and brings close to three decades on the bench to his role as Administrator. As the Administrator, Judge Ibarra will be responsible for managing the submission, evaluation, and settlement of death and serious physical injury claims.
